Snippet Sunday: Telling Our Friends

Another Snippet Sunday post today, from our manuscript, featuring Gabriel speaking with his friend Rachel, a doctor, about Chloe....

Rachel sat beside Gabriel, holding his hand as he spoke about Chloe, and about her background. “She deserves better then what she’s gotten out of life,” he finally said. “And now she’s dealing with all of this? It’s not fair, Rachel."
“I know.” He looked at her, seeing the compassion and empathy in her eyes. “This is why I didn’t go into oncology. Too much heartbreak, Gabriel.” She paused, and spoke again. “How did you meet her?”
            He sighed, and smiled. “Online.”
            “Online, huh?” She was smirking.
“Don’t you start,” he said, laughing.
“I haven’t said anything.” Rachel laughed.

  1. Uh oh. I hope Chloe makes it although Rachel may be the one he wants.

  2. That's the problem with short snippets, Elaine. The patient in question is Chloe's mother... and Rachel's engaged to Olivia!

  3. I wonder what she has to deal with.

  4. Nice flow of conversation.

One thing, though: "She deserves better then" should be "better than."

  5. That's on me, PT. I have to be very careful with those two words, and I'm the one who wrote that portion.

  6. I like this a lot. Like the contrast between the serious thoughts and playful dialogue.
