Snippet Sunday: Bad Passengers

Another passage from our manuscript today; this features the point of view of one of our supporting characters, Dana, who is traveling by plane with friends from New York to St. Louis, and has a track record of bad flight experiences...

When they boarded the plane, Dana found her seat was directly behind Olivia and Rachel. She looked at the empty seat next to hers and wondered who would occupy it. Past experience says it will be the most obnoxious SOB the airline has to offer today, she thought. She'd seen the worst of the worst in her travels.
As she looked up, a short, partially bald man with a combover worse than Donald Trump’s—dressed in camo fatigues—came aboard. He spoke to the flight attendant in a high pitched, nasal voice. Bingo, Dana thought. Well, at least he's not a terrorist. But if there were terrorists on board, they’d probably kill him first.

Snippet Sunday: The Odd Couple

Another passage from our manuscript; this has Chloe and Gabriel talking about their friends. Chloe is explaining to him about her best friend Dana.

“When I moved to New York, it was too expensive to live alone at first, so I started looking for a roommate. Dana was looking for one as well.”
Gabriel smiled at the thought. “You and Dana were roommates?”
“For almost three years,” Chloe told him.
“I'll bet that was interesting.”
“It wasn't easy at first. We were like The Odd Couple,” Chloe remembered. “I was Felix and Dana was Oscar.”

Snippet Sunday: Spilled Tea Leaves

Another passage from our manuscript, later in the book. This has Gabriel and his grandmother Bridget chatting in Ireland....

Gabriel wanted to bring Chloe here, to meet Bridget. In time, he knew he would. Bridget had even made the suggestion, advising that when the time was right, he must bring Chloe to Ireland, to see where he’d come from. “I promise,” she told him with a smile as they finished their tea. “I promise not to tell any horror stories about that time you spilled all those tea leaves on my bedspread.”

Gabriel rolled his eyes. “I’ll never live that down, will I?”

Snippet Sunday: Uncomfortable Ties

Another passage today from our manuscript, this with Gabriel arriving at a party in New York with his agent and friend Olivia, and feeling like his necktie is strangling him...

They headed inside, finding the crowd already growing. Gabriel resisted the urge to pull at his tie. There are a couple dozen different things I’d much rather be doing right now, he thought, but he knew networking was part of the job. Vistas was the name of the new magazine being launched tonight, and there were always opportunities to freelance assignments. And besides, there were always people from the publishing industry showing up for these things, including his own publishers, so it didn’t hurt to show up, shake some hands, and chat. Just be patient, lad. You can get rid of the tie later on.
